Aftermath: A Docudrama

aftermath_postcard

Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen traveled to the Middle East in June 2008 to find out firsthand what happened to the Iraqi civilians as a result of the 2003 US invasion/occupation. They interviewed some 35 people--a cross section of lives interrupted--who fled the chaos and violence that befell Iraqi society.

This is their unforgettable story.

"A docudrama of the highest order..."
-Michael Kuchwara
The Associated Press

"Graceful and gripping work...The stories are...haunting and harrowing, but there's also room for humor."
-Jon Dzieminanowicz
NY Daily News

San Francisco's Union Square transforms into an Arab bazaar for one Saturday every year, offering food, games and entertainment to the whole family.

The Arab Cultural Festival is the largest celebration of Arab arts and culture in Northern California. Since 1995, this day-long event has showcased the arts, entertainment, cuisine, traditions, and, most importantly, the spirit of Arab Americans and of the Arab world. On the stage at the center of the booth bazaar, performers will present Arab music and dance from across America and the Arab world. Performers at this year's festival are: Al Juthoor ("Roots"), a folkloric dance company whose mission is to present and preserve Palestinian dance (dabkeh), music, and culture; Alsarah and the Nubatones (unplugged), a New York-based band inspired by the Sudanese pentatonic scale and western soul music; Faisal Zedan, a Syrian-American percussionist skilled at the derbakki, riqq and tar; Naser Musa, a Jordanian-American oud virtuoso and singer-songwriter; Omar Offendum, a Syrian-American Hip-Hop artist, born in Saudi Arabia, raised in Washington DC and living in Los Angeles and Salma Habib, who was one of our most popular participants at the 16th Annual Arab Cultural Festival. Salma is a Palestinian singer, dancer and actor.
