ACCC awarded APIP Civic Engagement Grant
The ACCC has been awarded a continuation grant by the Asian Pacific Islander in Philanthropy (APIP) Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) to continue its working role in discussing issues of civil liberties, social justice, and community mobilization efforts with a coalition of various community organizations in the Arab, Muslim, Middle Eastern, and South Asian communities (AMEMSA). The coalition includes organizations representing Muslim, Sikh, Afghan, Iranian, and Arab communities, including the Arab Resource and Organizing Center, the Arab Film Festival, Zawaya, and the Arab-American Cultural Center of Silicon Valley. The ACCC participates in a learning circle titled “Political Engagement” with partners from the AACC, the Afghan Coalition, Narika, and the Sikh Coalition. Our current project is to develop a voter guide for the 2012 Presidential elections that specifically questions the candidates on issues relevant to our communities. The ACCC will be conducting a survey during the month of October which will be sent to our community requesting feedback on the issues of primary concern. Please be sure to participate so we understand the issues concerning our communities and are able to develop advocacy projects and initiatives that are necessary and relevant to our community needs and aspirations.
